The thriller was a top finisher in Inkshares’ Launch Pad competition.
Rights to This Red Fire, a horror thriller manuscript that recently finished atop publisher Inkshares’ Launch Pad competition have been optioned by former Warner Bros. President of Film Greg Silverman’s Stampede Ventures.
Set in a small Nebraska town, the story follows sheriff Evie Hartley who finds the entire town murdered save for two missing children. “When I was writing This Red Fire, I was thinking about how books like In Cold Blood or films like Fargo utilized isolation to create fear,” said author Nicolina Torres. “I think Wind River did that so well this past year. Also I’m just so grateful to Inkshares and Launch Pad for opening up so many doors, and to Greg Silverman for believing in me and my manuscript.”
Added Silverman, “We have been searching and searching for a great franchise character. We are so excited to have found Evie Hartley and this amazing first story, This Red Fire.” Inkshares CEO Adam Gomolin called it a “clean-concept, best-in-class dark thriller.”
Inkshares will publish the book in winter 2019.
Launch Pad is an Inkshares-sponsored competition that uses industry judges to evaluate manuscripts and help shepherd the top-placing ones to publication. Inkshares recently published Kill Creek, which was the American Library Association’s horror book of the year and sold the film rights to another of its books, The Punch Escrow, to Lionsgate.
